what do i bring to the first session?

It is quite common that people are nervous to see a psychologist for the first time.  Just pitch up.  My friendly receptionist, Sandra, will put you at ease, and most patients start relaxing within the first few minutes of the session.

Kindly bring your South African Identification book/card with as well as your medical aid card.

Please bring a referral letter from your general practitioner with.  This is not essential, but some medical aids require it.

is online therapy available?

Yes, however, we strongly advise that the first consultation be in person. Make it clear when you make an appointment that it is for online therapy as in that case my receptionist will E-mail you specific forms to fill out. It is important that you are in a confidential space in which you can not be overheard and would not be disturbed during the online session. Some patients use their car for this purpose.

do you claim from my medical aid?

We charge medical aid tariffs and claim from your medical aid. Bring your medical aid card with to your first session, even if it is only a hospital plan. Some conditions, including Major Depression, are Prescribed Minimum Benefit conditions, and all medical aid funds, even hospital plans, cover annually a number of sessions, which do not come off your day-to-day expenses.
Usually, the psychologist needs to apply by filling out a prescribed form, which you have to sign.
